Alas, poor Limelight
Company Christmas party last night was good times, which was especially excellent as work-related events have a large built-in potential for suck. But I work with a neat group of people so that's less true here than at some other places I've been.
I read this morning that Limelight will be turned into a mall. I find that notion so incredibly depressing that I almost don't even want to think about it. I've been to so many events there - club nights, release parties, concerts. I've seen so many bands there that I can't even remember them all. And I met Ogre in the Giger room after an ohGr show in 2001.
I wonder if it means something that every venue or club I've loved in the time I've lived in New York has closed, going all the way back to the Bank and Mother and more recently with CBGBs and now Limelight. I guess that's the nature of the city, but it still sucks.
