Nice piece in Time about Twitter. (Hey, I like those puppy and kitten videos on YouTube - is that why I like Twitter too?) Also, every time I end up at the Time site lately (which admittedly isn't all that often), I can't help but notice that their current design is very slick. Especially when compared to most news and magazine sites.

Chris made dinner for me and our friends Johan and Meg last night, who we hadn't seen in far too long. And who actually hadn't ever seen our Roosevelt Island apartment — shocking, since we've been here just over two years now. There was much Stella consumed, and some really fantastic cheesecake from Junior's. (The leftovers of which were devoured this morning with coffee — mmm.)

I've spent most of today working, but for once it's solely personal stuff, which is very refreshing. My eyes are starting to complain about yet another day spent in front of a monitor, though, so I think I'll call it a night pretty soon.

Just wanted to share an incredibly dorky story about my first ever visit to NYC 3 years ago.

My friend Jon and I were staying at a friend's apartment while he was out of town and we spent most of our evenings at Josie Wood's Pub on his recommendation. We met a really great bartender there by the name of Raz, an outgoing guy from the Bronx. We also had the chance one night to meet an incredibly drunk school teacher from Queens who wanted to tell us all about the cheesecake from some place called Junior's. Her directions were to go across the Brooklyn Bridge, go directly underneath it, you can't miss it. Raz scoffed at her cheesecake, called her bridge and tunnel trash, and told us that what we really needed was some cheesecake from a place in the Bronx, but we probably shouldn't go there alone. We planned on going into Brooklyn anyway, and we figured the bridge was as good a way as any, so we ignored his advice.

Being from Texas one begins to think you know the definition of big. We were not prepared, however, for the length of that damned bridge, nor the amount of city that could be crammed underneath it. As we reached the halfway mark, a rainstorm came out of nowhere to torment us as we finished our trek, realizing with every step how unlikely it was we could actually find this mythical Junior's. We wandered around for about 30 minutes under the bridge on the Brooklyn side before giving up retreating to the relative familiarity of the subway system.

The next night Raz made sure to mock us for being such utter tourists, but being the great guy he was, he had actually brought us a cheesecake from his neighborhood in the Bronx as a gift.

New York is a funny town like that.

I think every visit to New York needs to involve at least half an hour of wandering around lost in the rain. Especially if it results in cheesecake afterwards.
